In 2001, Coram International completed an assessment of key legal issues affecting children in Turkey and of the child protection situation more broadly, to assess the feasibility of setting up a child law centre. Coram International also conducted training for police officers in child rights and child protection, and organised a conference regarding children’s rights which was attended by child care professionals. In conjunction with the British Council and with funding from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, training on children’s rights and child protection was delivered to police officers in 2001. Coram International also assisted in the organisation of the Conference – “Are Children’s Rights Human Rights?” which was attended by 100 child care professionals, members of parliament, human rights workers, lawyers, judges, police, paediatricians and other relevant stakeholders.
