In 2019, Coram International engaged in a contract with UNICEF Maldives to conduct a Situation Analysis (SitAn) of children and young people in the Republic of Maldives. The SitAn was intended to inform the strategic planning discussions for the development of the Government of Maldives-UNICEF Country Program 2021-2025. Coram International undertook a comprehensive synthesis and analysis of existing quantitative and qualitative datasets, including censuses, national household surveys, research reports, articles and other literature pertaining to children in the Maldives on the following thematic areas: child protection, WASH, nutrition, health, education, youth unemployment, climate change and social protection. In-country consultations were held with a wide variety of stakeholders, including UNICEF and other UN representatives, Government officials, NGOs and children and young people in order to corroborate findings from the desk review and provide colour in thematic areas where little secondary data were available. Coram International developed a comprehensive assessment report complete with concrete recommendations for policy and practice.
